The Onkyo Muse Y-40 is an all-in-one network streamer and integrated amplifier, combining a fully digital signal path with an Axign Class D amplifier and high-current MOSFET transistors to deliver 150W per channel into 4 ohms. Designed for Onkyo’s 80th anniversary, it brings together streaming, DAC and amplification in a single compact chassis so only a pair of speakers is needed to complete a system.

A 5.46-inch colour LCD display shows track metadata and an analogue-style VU meter, giving the Y-40 a distinctive, modern front panel alongside its two large rotary controls. Streaming is built directly into the unit, with support for Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect, Qobuz Connect, Chromecast built-in, AirPlay 2 and DTS Play-Fi, all managed through the Onkyo Controller app over Wi-Fi or Ethernet.

Connectivity covers a moving magnet (MM) phono input for direct turntable connection, three pairs of analogue RCA line inputs, digital coaxial and optical inputs, HDMI ARC for TV and console audio, and a front-panel USB input, giving the Y-40 the flexibility to act as the central hub for a compact two-channel system. A subwoofer pre-out, RCA pre-out and a 1/4-inch front-panel headphone jack round out the connection options.

Bluetooth is included for quick, casual playback from phones, tablets and computers, complementing the unit’s built-in streaming platforms. The Y-40 is the ideal choice for compact spaces or second systems where its footprint and feature set cover everything needed, without the additional power, MC phono support, HDMI video pass-through and Onkyo Room EQ correction found on its larger Y-50 sibling.
