The BSS Audio BLU-HIF Telephone Headset Interface facilitates connection of the headset jack of a VoIP or digital phone to an AEC input and analog output of a Soundweb London device. This allows the VoIP or digital phone to be used as the dialing interface and hybrid for a room conferencing system, giving users a familiar handset or headset experience while the room’s Soundweb London system manages the actual audio routing.

This simple interface eliminates the programming requirements associated with third-party control systems, while still providing a familiar and low-cost dialing interface to the end user. The BLU-HIF features an RJ-22 jack for connection to the headset jack of a VoIP or digital phone, a balanced input for sending near-side audio into the Soundweb London system, and a balanced output for receiving far-side audio back to the phone.

While the BLU-HIF provides substantial isolation between the receive and transmit signal paths, some near-side audio will still be present on the receive channel due to natural side-tone in the phone. BSS Audio recommends always feeding the receive channel into an AEC input rather than a standard analog input, so that the Soundweb London device’s echo cancellation can remove this residual side-tone automatically.

The wiring configuration within the headset jack of a VoIP or digital phone can vary between manufacturers, so the BLU-HIF is supplied with two cables featuring different wiring configurations to cover the two most common headset jack standards. An additional 2.5mm jack allows connection of two-way communication devices such as cellular phones, providing a useful backup communication path to the outside world alongside the main phone system.
