The Reference 9 compact loudspeaker combines over 50 years of Canton speaker engineering into a small yet acoustically powerful design. Although compact in size, it incorporates technologies typically found in floorstanding speakers, allowing it to fill even larger rooms with dynamic and controlled sound. The use of a large mid-bass driver and an integrated bass guide system enables impressive low-frequency performance from a compact cabinet.

Designed as a 2-way bass reflex system, the Reference 9 features a specially developed 174 mm black ceramic tungsten midrange/bass driver. This driver offers high rigidity, excellent internal damping, and low moving mass, enabling precise and accurate reproduction of low and mid frequencies. High frequencies are reproduced by a 25 mm BC tweeter made from aluminum ceramic oxide, delivering detailed, transparent, and well-balanced treble reproduction.

The speaker benefits from precise laboratory and listening-room tuning, supported by a carefully designed crossover network using hand-selected components. This ensures stable impedance behavior, accurate impulse response, and cohesive interaction between the drivers. WBT nextgen™ connection terminals provide a secure and low-loss signal path between amplifier and speaker. Integrated RC technology allows sensitive tweeter level adjustment in 1.5 decibel increments, enabling adaptation to personal listening preferences and room acoustics.

The cabinet of the Reference 9 has been developed entirely from scratch to optimize sound dispersion from a compact enclosure. Generous radii on the cabinet edges and a round baffle reduce diffraction effects and enhance spatial sound reproduction. Computer-optimized internal chambers and sophisticated bracing minimize resonances and standing waves. The high-quality multi-layer laminate cabinet is finished with a complex surface process, resulting in an acoustically stable and visually refined loudspeaker manufactured in Germany.
