KEF BQ9 Three-Way Outdoor Bollard Speaker

The KEF BQ9 outdoor bollard speaker combines bass, midrange and high-frequency reproduction in a single three-way enclosure. A 200 mm bass driver supports a 160 mm Uni-Q midrange driver and 19 mm tweeter. This integrated arrangement gives the installation a dedicated low-frequency section without requiring a separate bass enclosure at each speaker position.

The Uni-Q array places the tweeter within the midrange driver, keeping the two acoustic sections closely aligned. Nominal coverage is 130 degrees, providing a useful reference when planning the outdoor listening area. The specified frequency response is 35 Hz–20 kHz at ±6 dB, with sensitivity of 88 dB at 2.83V/1m. These characteristics help define the speaker's role within a landscape music system.

Internal passive crossovers operate at 82 Hz and 1.8 kHz, dividing the incoming signal between the driver sections. The speaker has a nominal impedance of 4 ohms and a recommended amplifier power of 240W. External amplification remains necessary, but the passive crossover arrangement manages the separation of the three operating bands within the speaker itself.

An IPX5 protection rating, UV-resistant exterior and aluminium grille support outdoor use. Ground-stake and hardscape mounting arrangements provide different ways to position the enclosure around the site. Without a mount, the speaker measures 1114 × 288 × 288 mm and weighs 18.5 kg. Combining the driver sections in one bollard makes the BQ9 useful when a complete speaker position is preferred within the landscape layout. Its combined acoustic sections allow bass and upper-frequency reproduction to share one physical location, simplifying the relationship between the speaker position and the intended listening zone.
