The Allen & Heath DX168 is a professional 96 kHz portable audio expander designed to provide remote input and output expansion for Allen & Heath dLive, Avantis, SQ, Qu, and AHM systems. Engineered for live sound, touring, houses of worship, educational facilities, and installed audio environments, the DX168 combines high-performance audio connectivity with a durable and portable stagebox design.
The unit features 16 fully recallable microphone preamps with up to 60 dB of gain, individually selectable phantom power, and integrated -20 dB pads for accommodating line-level sources. These high-quality preamps deliver low-noise operation and precise gain control while maintaining consistent audio performance across demanding professional applications. Eight balanced XLR line outputs provide reliable signal distribution with relay-protected circuitry for enhanced operational security.
Designed for maximum deployment flexibility, the DX168 can be positioned up to 100 meters from the connected mixer using a single Cat5e cable and secure EtherCon connection. A secondary locking EtherCon port supports redundant connections with compatible hardware or allows daisy-chaining additional DX expanders to increase remote I/O capacity. Up to six DX168 units can be integrated into a dLive system, significantly expanding available inputs and outputs.
The rugged stagebox enclosure incorporates durable rubber bumpers that protect the unit during transport and operation, allowing it to be placed directly on stage floors without additional protection. Weighing only 4.6 kg and equipped with a sturdy carry handle, the DX168 offers excellent portability for rental and mobile production environments. Optional rackmount accessories enable installation in standard 19-inch racks when required.
With plug-and-play operation, automatic firmware synchronization, professional audio performance, and versatile expansion capabilities, the DX168 provides a reliable solution for extending remote I/O in modern digital audio systems.
