The system incorporates two 8-inch JBL 258J Differential Drive™ woofers, four 3-inch JBL 2163H mid-frequency drivers, and two 2-inch JBL 2423K HF compression drivers. The innovative three-way design, combined with Slip Stream™ low-frequency ports, extends usable bass down to 49 Hz, while the mid-frequency Radiation Boundary Integrator® (RBI) ensures uniform horizontal dispersion and improved transducer density. The VTX A8 is optimized for seamless integration with JBL VTX A Series products, including the VTX B18 subwoofer, and A12/A12W line arrays.

The enclosure is constructed from Finnish birch plywood with a Black DuraFlex™ finish and features four integral recessed handles for easy handling.
