Description
dbx 520 De-Esser 500 Series Module
The dbx 520 De-Esser is a professional dynamics processor designed to eliminate excessive sibilance and harsh high-frequency content while preserving the natural clarity and presence of vocals and other audio sources. Based on the legendary dbx 902, the 520 brings proven de-essing technology to the compact and versatile 500 Series platform, making it suitable for studio recording, live sound reinforcement, touring systems, and broadcast production. Its intelligent processing accurately controls unwanted sibilance without affecting the tonal balance of the original performance, resulting in smooth and articulate vocal reproduction.
The dbx 520 analyzes the difference between the full-bandwidth signal and its high-frequency content, allowing consistent de-essing even when signal levels vary by as much as 60 dB. A variable Frequency Control ranging from 800 Hz to 8 kHz enables precise targeting of troublesome frequencies, while the adjustable de-essing range from 0 dB to 20 dB provides flexible control for a wide variety of applications. Expanded-scale LED gain reduction metering offers clear visual feedback, allowing engineers to monitor processing with confidence during recording and live operation.
Additional controls include dedicated IN/OUT and HF Mode switches for quick comparison and flexible processing options. Electronically balanced and unbalanced RF-filtered inputs and outputs ensure excellent signal integrity with low noise and minimal distortion throughout the audio path. The dbx 520 also features phase-coherent crossover filtering, fast program-dependent attack characteristics, and controlled release performance to deliver transparent de-essing without introducing audible artifacts. Designed for compatibility with standard 500 Series power frames, the dbx 520 provides reliable, professional-grade control of vocals, drums, percussion, and other high-frequency-rich program material.
