Allen & Heath DX164-W Remote I/O Expander
The Allen & Heath DX164-W is a professional 96kHz remote I/O expander designed to extend the connectivity of compatible Allen & Heath digital mixing systems and audio matrix processors. Supporting dLive, Avantis, SQ, selected Qu mixers, and AHM processors, the DX164-W provides a compact and flexible solution for remote audio distribution in installed and live sound environments.
Equipped with 16 balanced XLR mic/line inputs and 4 balanced XLR line outputs, the DX164-W delivers high-quality audio performance with fully recallable microphone preamps. Each input offers up to +60 dB of gain, individually selectable +48V phantom power, and a -20 dB pad for accommodating a wide range of audio sources. The remote preamps can be controlled directly from the connected mixer, enabling efficient setup and complete scene recall functionality.
The unit supports both redundant and cascade operating modes, providing enhanced reliability and system scalability. A secure EtherCon connection allows communication over Cat5e cabling at distances up to 100 meters, while a secondary port enables either redundancy or expansion to additional DX units. The DX164-W requires no manual network configuration, offering true plug-and-play deployment with automatic firmware synchronization from the host system.
Designed for installation flexibility, the reversible mounting frame supports both in-wall and surface-wall mounting. Optional installation brackets allow integration into standard NEMA enclosures or floor pockets for stage applications. Power options include a universal IEC mains input and a 12V DC backup connection, ensuring reliable operation in both fixed and mission-critical installations.
